Spotting Errors — The 7 Error Zones to Check

✍️ Grammar  ·  ⏱️ 6 min read  ·  Updated June 2026

Check zones, not whole sentences

Don’t read a sentence hoping the error “feels wrong”. Instead, run it through a fixed checklist of seven zones where the error almost always hides. This turns a vague hunt into a quick scan.

हिन्दी: error “महसूस” करके मत ढूँढो — इन 7 जगहों को एक-एक करके check करो, गलती वहीं मिलेगी।

The 7 error zones

ZoneWhat to checkTypical error
1. Subject-verb agreementDoes the verb match the real subject?“One of the boys are…”
2. TenseIs the sequence of tenses correct?“He did not came.”
3. PrepositionRight preposition with the verb/adjective?“senior than” (→ to)
4. Articlesa / an / the used correctly?“He is a honest man.”
5. PronounCase & agreement with antecedent?“between you and I” (→ me)
6. Adjective / adverb & degreeComparison & modifier form?“more better
7. Redundancy / word orderRepeated or misplaced words?“return back”, “discuss about

Fast rules that catch most errors

  • Strip the “of the …” phrase to find the true subject, then fix the verb.
  • After “did / does / do”, the verb is the base form (V1).
  • Watch redundancy: ✗ return back, ✗ discuss about, ✗ repeat again, ✗ cousin brother, ✗ more superior.
  • “The” + adjective = a plural class (“the rich are…”).
  • If no zone has an error, the answer is “No error” — it is a real option, not a trick.
